Parental involvement is one of the most wonderful aspects of Turtle River! We encourage all
families to participate actively at our school as we greatly value the community
spirit that it creates. Each family agrees to contribute a minimum of 25
hours of parent involvement time per school year. Each classroom
designates a Room Mother who coordinates all volunteer activities for that
classroom. Monthly Parent meetings are held to communicate with
volunteers and coordinate activities and special events. A Parent
Involvement Box is kept at the reception desk for your convenience in keeping
track of time spent helping in various capacities.
The Parent Meetings is a great opportunity to meet other
parents with children in your child's classroom, and to learn more about the
classroom volunteer needs. Room Coordinators also communicate with parents via
email and memos. The range of volunteer needs is wide and can uniquely utilize
our Parents' individual talents. Parents can take on a role for the year,
for a special event or periodically.
Volunteer roles include:
Lunch Helpers
Library Volunteers
Craft Material Makers
Garden Helpers
Class Photographers
Special Event Volunteers - Cultural Peace Festival, Thanksgiving Feast, Holiday
Crafts etc
Coordinators for Calendar, Garden, Book Fair, Teacher Appreciation etc
Parent Social Event Hosts
Facility Improvement Volunteers
Auction Gala Volunteers
In addition, we have been happy to have parents who initiate unique projects to
benefit the school.
For details about the Volunteer Roles, see our
Current
Parents Resources page.

As part of the 25 hours of Parental Participation, parents are required to
attend at least three Parent Awareness meetings a year on the Montessori
methodology and its philosophies. These sessions familiarize parents with the
teaching techniques used in our classrooms and build an understanding of
Montessori practices and learning styles. Through informative sessions
with Turtle River's teachers and respected guest speakers, parents
have an opportunity to learn more about the Montessori principles as
they can be utilized in the classroom and at home. Hands-on
demonstrations of the Montessori materials and lessons, overviews of
curriculum and question and answer sessions allow families to gain
familiarity with their child's learning environment.
