We are a warm, welcoming community in which children and adults
find friendship and support, where adults and children are
encouraged to ask questions and broaden their understanding of
themselves, others and the world around them.
Turtle River Montessori prides
itself on our high standards in "whole education",
utilizing Montessori's belief that teaching philosophies and
practices should be learner focused and address broader frameworks
such as peace and environmental education. This approach encourages
children to think and discover for themselves. It reaches beyond
basic academic achievement to influence the whole child. We are
affiliated with the
American
Montessori Society and all of our teachers are trained in the
Montessori method through courses certified by the AMS.
Our mission is to provide a learning environment which is wholly
nurturing and respectful to the child; one in which children are
valued individually and are free to learn independently at
their own pace.
Our Montessori Program invites children to develop a love of
learning for a lifetime,
and our goal is to create opportunities that encourage learning on
many different levels, with the help of hundreds of specially
designed three-dimensional, hands-on lessons that engage the
children in a fun way. As well, we promote a
peace curriculum that teaches the children conflict resolution with
their peers. A child who has experienced a true Montessori
environment is well-rounded, adept at conducting himself in his
community of peers, and intellectually advanced due to exposure to
varied concepts that foster intellectual and academic growth.
Parents can feel comfortable knowing that their children are
cared for in an encouraging learning atmosphere - one that is
supportive of intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth.
Guided by the Montessori philosophy, we gently help children learn
how to learn in a secure, prepared environment, laying a firm
foundation for them to become confident, caring and successful human
beings. Parents generally enter into the Montessori
environment with questions about how we teach their child to read,
write, and do math. What parents of Montessori students end up
valuing the most is the self-esteem, self-control, self-motivation,
self-organization and genuine long lasting love of learning
their children internalize during their growth in a Montessori
school. Add to that the enhanced social skills and friendships
developed by the children, and the network of relationships enjoyed
by their parents, and you'll begin to understand why a true
Montessori education is so superior to traditional education.
We
are dedicated to fostering a tight-knit community and encourage
parents to participate on various levels. Research has proven that
children thrive better in environments where their families are
involved. Our belief is that
participation enhances the school programs and raises parental
commitment to the quality of education, which has created our
extended family of students, faculty, parents and alumni. We are committed to educating the
parent community in our Montessori philosophy, and find that the
more parents know and understand Montessori principles, the more
excited they are about being involved in their child's educational
experiences at Turtle River.
We developed this website with a focus on you, the
Parent, and we strived to answer questions and present information
important to you in determining the best path for your child.
