Extracurricular Activities

Turtle River maintains a diverse range of Extracurricular Activities throughout the year on site.  Changing seasonally, programs typically run monthly or in 6 week blocks.  Please check the attached Extracurricular Schedule for Program times and days.  Leave sign up forms with the front office. 
Signups for most programs begin in August.

 

Soccer - Happy Feet is an exciting soccer program for children ages 2 to 9. It's anHappy Feet Soccer incredibly fun "story time with a soccer ball" program.  Parents tell us Happy Feet is their child's favorite weekly activity. Your child will have an absolute blast, develop a great self-concept & form healthy exercise habits with Happy Feet soccer! Tennis - Instructor Tom Virden works with age appropriate tennis equipment, using fun drills that get your child up and learning tennis techniques right away!  PrePrimary and Elementary  Click here for ACT Tennis signup form.

Golf - We offer a safe, fun instructional environment where your young golfer will learn, refine and improve their skills. Establishing good golf technique now during your child’s formative years will have positive effects on their game for a lifetime.  Available in the spring.

Kids Fit Club - Looking for a fun, energetic, cooperative sport for your Elementary child?  The Kids Fit Club offers CrossFit skills and activities, obstacle course, group sport and relay races, dodgeball, metabolic conditioning WOD's, and gymnastic skills.  Taught by Upper Elementary Teacher Jacqueline Cerrone, an avid CrossFit athlete and an advocate for living a healthy lifestyle combining active sports and healthy eating.  Tuesdays 3:30-4:15.  Lower and Upper Elementary. Foreign Language - Turtle River's Rosetta Stone Online Foreign Language Learning system provides comprehensive foreign language learning program your family can access from any computer!  Open to students, family members and friends, you can pursue ANY of the 25 foreign languages offered: Chinese, English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Spanish and more, offered at all levels—beginner through advanced!  The program has a level geared to beginning readers, which allows learners working on their reading skills to participate as well.

Piano - Music Instructors work with your child weekly on learning to play the piano.  Students work on age-appropriately reading music, experiencing various music compositions and playing fun songs.  PrePrimary through Middle SchoolDance

Cello - Our own Ms. Lynne runs the Cello Club, teaching students to play the cello in a weekly format.  Elementary

Creative Movement/Dance - Our own Ms. Sarah teaches Modern Dance, culminating in a performance at the end of the year.   Your child will get up and move, learning fun dance styles and putting them together into routines.  PrePrimary through Middle School.  Click here for Dance signup form.

Theatre and Improv - Join our fun theatre program and learn the basics of stage performing, boost self confidence, encourage and channel creativity, and learn basic improv techniques.  Kids learn about theatre and star in co-created performances in an encouraging environment!  With Cathy Cross, former actress and comedian from NYC, holding an EFA in Theatre from VCU School of the Arts. She performed in off-Broadway productions as well as television and film, and she has been teaching theatre and music to children since 1996.  Lower and Upper Elementary.  Monthly signup at front desk. 

Mad Science - Mad Science encourages scientific literacy in children in an age when science is as vital as reading, writing and arithmetic. Mad Science provides a unique assortment of hands-on programs, live presentations, theatrical productions and innovative products that are as entertaining as they are educational.  Elementary 

FunChefsFun Chefs - Geared toward exploring and practicing the culinary arts, fun, delicious and nutritious recipes will be created along with lessons in nutrition, sanitation, culinary math and culinary geography. Students will learn how to follow recipes, use kitchen tools properly and enjoy the fruits of their labor.   PrePrimary.   Monthly signup at front desk.

Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program. Runs Fall through Spring - sign up Fall.

Pet Club - Elementary - Weekly meetings on pet care, handling, exploration of pet types.  Free program runs in the Spring.
